What to Drink if You Hate Wine

I want to get into wine, but everything either tastes like vinegar or grape juice. Any suggestions for something that’s more balanced?

If you’re totally new, try chilled reds like a light Gamay or even a good Lambrusco. Cold wine changes the game.

I was the same way until I had a Valpolicella Ripasso. It’s smooth and kind of velvety, not sharp at all.

Honestly I think serving temperature matters too. A lot of wine tastes better slightly chilled—especially reds.

I always recommend starting with a Pinot Noir. It’s approachable and not too heavy. Even the cheaper ones usually go down easy.

Try a white blend from Washington or Oregon. You don’t need to go full Chardonnay to get into wine.

I got into wine through orange wines. They’re funky and fun, kind of like cider meets white wine.

Chenin Blanc is super underrated for beginners. Fruity but not sweet, and it pairs well with so many foods.

If you’re a beer drinker trying wine, try a dry Riesling or a sparkling rosé. They bridge the gap nicely.
